Combining Photography and Ecology
I am an interdisciplinary scholar with experience bridging science, visual communication, and design. My research draws on dual graduate training. I hold an MA in English from the University of Waterloo, with a focus on the application of visual rhetoric and photography in science communication. Additionally, I hold an MSc in Biology from the University of Waterloo, with a research focus on urban ecosystems and biodiversity. I explore how cities can support thriving ecological communities and foster biodiversity.
Through my combined scientific and photographic practice, I document and communicate stories about the intricate relationships between urban habitat and infrastructure. This work is deeply invested in understanding and promoting urban biodiversity, with research outcomes that inform municipalities about how stormwater management facilities can function as critical assets in fostering biodiversity in cities.
Beyond my laboratory research, I create media projects as an independent scholar, including poetry collections and conference presentations delivered globally (both in-person and virtually). My multidisciplinary approach spans photography, design, and other visual media; all unified by my passion for the intersection of science, technology, media, and design.
I'm always interested in connecting with fellow researchers and collaborators who share an interest in urban ecology and science communication. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss potential projects or collaborations.
