In October 2025, a KW Gays and Theys event, "Beers with Queers," was cancelled after the Waterloo Regional Police Service received a tip about a potential threat of violence.

In defiance of attempts to silence the community, One Big Day Disco held a special pop-up event in response. In the face of violence, it is important to document joy amid hate.

Taking polaroids and recording queer joy in Kitchener-Waterloo matters, as there are no dedicated queer spaces for the community to congregate. Photographing this event, I continue to document the joy in our queer community in KW.
